Music

Music is a powerful, unique form of communication that can change the way pupils feel, think and act. It brings together intellect and feeling and enables personal expression, reflection and emotional development. Music is a very important part of culture, both past and present. It not only helps pupils understand themselves but also helps them relate to others. In this way important links are formed between the home, school and the wider world.

At Alma, the teaching of music develops pupils’ ability to listen and appreciate a wide variety of music and gives them an opportunity to make judgements about the quality of music in general. In music lessons, pupils are encouraged to be actively involved in different forms of amateur music making, both individually and in groups. Music activities include the playing of instruments, singing and performing simple movement which aids the experience of rhythm.

We are fortunate to have a specialist music teacher who delivers music to classes on a weekly basis. In addition to this, all pupils take part in weekly singing assemblies led by our music specialists.
